When neighbors get to be friends, there are often interesting ways in which they interact. Case in point…

It’s a fact. Bad news sells. It sells far better than good news. That is probably why T.V. newscasts often look like the one here. 29 ½ minutes are devoted to commercials and stories of doom and gloom, and 30 seconds are set aside for a little good news.

Despite the checkered past (and probably present) of Megan’s mom, at least the lady is trying to make good by becoming an author……writing what she doesn’t know!

I like to try keeping Candace from getting too independent, because I imagine she's still a little girl at heart. And apparently, her favorite bedtime story is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I know it doesn't look particularly realistic, but I really like the background colors here. If I were drawing a "soap opera" comic strip, I might be compelled to dial it down a bit.

Megan virtually accuses the dog of having fleas here, but I suspect Fido was just an easy scapegoat. But then again, that’s just my take. This is ultimately your cartoon to interpret any way you please, so if Fido has fleas, by gum, Fido has fleas! I’m more interested in seeing Megan actually cooking something, a skill in which she’s usually totally inept! And with her sweet tooth, of course she’d bake brownies!

Early in the days of social media, I viewed it as a silly waste of time, and never ventured into it. Well, these days I do, but mostly behind the front of Candace ‘n’ Company. It’s not that I’m a reclusive hermit, because I’m not. I would just rather push my comic strip than talk away with friends I can simply see in person. So I’ve never really gotten a full grasp on how the rest of the world uses it. This cartoon stars Candace’s boss, Bob, and Bob’s wife Ellie.

Face it, pet owners. You are all loved dearly! Personally, I'd be delighted to have my pet dog chose me over the rest of the couch. That must be one riveting book Candace is trying to read.

3/21/2018

Well, we're all guilty of not listening, aren't we? Candace tries to pray over dinner every night, but I guess conversing with fellow diner(s) is more of an optional decision on her part. By the way, I really like the you're-lucky-this-table's-holding-me-back look Meg gives her in the last panel!

Screens! They are everywhere now! Television sets, computers, cell phones, the list goes on and on. I'm pretty sure anyone who writes anything is to some extent being influenced by his or her own time. I just wrote what I saw.

To each his (or her) own. In Candace's own opinion, talking your way out of a tight spot at work is an art form. But Megan is the true artist around here (though I suspect she's not particularly good at it!).

Shakespeare meets pro wrestling meets police dogs! According to this strip, there are at least three TV sets in the home, so everyone gets to watch his or her own TV show. Unfortunately, the two humans are too mad to enjoy themselves!

Well, this is just weird. Candace describes the theorem of a Greek historical figure as "French". In another cartoon, Candace describes swearing as being "for people who are too impatient to come up with the right word". She should've given it a bit more thought before unleashing her own verbal volley.

This one was inspired by two different childhood homes of mine when it was possible to hear a blaring radio next door, and in both cases, the neighbors lived quite a distance away. Some folks are content to simply use headphones or earbuds, but not Megan!

In many ways Candace and Megan are polar opposites. Here we have civic minded Candace frustrated by apolitical Megan. I sometimes see polls displayed on T.V. news, but I sure don't recall anyone ever asking for my input.

Some days nothing goes your way. Here's one of my cartoons indicating Candace's left-handedness.

3/13/2018

Let me just state that, although I do not have a cat, I really think they’re wonderful pets, and mean no disrespect to our feline friends with this cartoon. But one day at the grocery store I was charged with finding cat food, and I just had fun pretending to be scared of being observed by my fellow “dog people”! So a cartoon idea was born…Candace’s boss is neither a “cat” or “dog” person, however, so he might be just as embarrassed about shopping for rawhide bones!

3/12/2018

Here’s one of my “philosophical” cartoons where Candace unsuccessfully tries to have some sort of meaningful discussion with her boss, only to find out just how callous the man is! Typically, I try to be as original as possible with my jokes, but I must confess I got this one from watching The Red Green Show. Candace’s boss is usually pretty strict about the rules around his office, but he does let her get away with using his desk as a chair during break time.

3/11/2018

Well, I’ve recently gone back to a basic cell phone (as opposed to a smartphone). So I’m in the same boat as Candace’s boss (again). I don’t know how far artificial intelligence will go (hopefully Skynet will remain fictional), but the version in my cartoon seems to know how to imitate its owner.

They say most accidents around the house occur in the kitchen. Next time the roomies will follow home safety guidelines to the letter (sorry)!

3/9/2018

I just had to draw the roomies as kids. Looks like Meg might have been somewhat of a playground bully. Or maybe everyone else is, and she’s a pint sized vigilante. Your choice, as usual.

Aside from looking somewhat uncouth, one might wonder what is so wrong about nail biting, as long as they’re fingernails and not toenails. Well, I used to chew on my fingernails all the time, and have enough experience with hangnails to be quite content about having kicked the old habit.

I’d recommend not using a vise grip to open stubborn jars…unless you’re a cartoon character!

3/5/2018

I’m guessing there is little (if anything) the F.C.C. can do about what goes on in cyberspace (at least in America), so there’s a lot that can be seen online. Personally, I just scroll on and forget about anything I see that I don’t particularly like, but Candace isn’t quite so easygoing about it.

3/4/2018

I was slightly apprehensive when I originally showed this comic online. I thought the notion that sweet Candace was actually intent on swatting her unruly dog might offend some folks. But, as was pointed out to me, it was perfectly innocent, and I really like the way Fido plays dead!

3/3/2018

I don't see what the problem is? I'd probably buy the same thing (wink, nudge)! It turns out Candace is slightly to blame for her boss' complete lack of foresight when choosing what should have been a romantic gift.

3/2/2018

I have the same tendency Candace does. I like to whistle along with music, and I don't much care if I'm butchering the tune. The bowling game these gals are playing was inspired by Monkey Bowling from the Nintendo GameCube game Super Monkey Ball (and its sequel).

They say love hurts, so I figured I'd present a little theory of just why it hurts! What's that, you say? It's more of an "emotional hurt"? Drat! Back to the drawing board! P.S. I really kind of like those red shoes!
