I don’t entirely get the wording “They are trying to get pregnant”, referring to a couple wanting to conceive a child. My reaction is similar to Bob’s in this cartoon.

Something I think everyone who's anyone has been guilty of is trying to one-up someone else. Here's Candace pretending to be the next bodybuilding champion of the world for no other reason than to impress her clearly apathetic roommate! I actually had some trouble positioning Candace's hands in this cartoon. There is definitely a right way and a wrong way to do your sit ups. I actually suspect Candace may possibly be doing it wrong, but even her way will have you feeling the burn!

This one stems from a chapter I read in a medical book. The subject? Body odor! Within the pages that I chose to read for whatever reason (no I wasn't a patient!), I learned that some scientists believe that body odor is the remnant of pheromones human ancestors were capable of emitting. In any case, it gave me an idea for a comic!

I suspect Candace is a regular Emily Post at the dinner table, a far cry from her roommate's cavewoman demeanor. My favorite part about illustrating one of Megan's burps is her flapping lips, something I picked up from reading FoxTrot cartoons! And there's today's lesson for any and all aspiring cartoonists: Read your comics!

I've heard plenty of different songs playing on the radio, but sometimes I hear a simple jingle for whatever station's on and wish it were longer than three seconds! I don't do any dancing myself, but I really like having Candace get down. In today's comic, she is clearly favoring F.M. over A.M. radio, but I'm sure she listens to both.

There's no thought balloon in this comic, but I'll bet Candace is thinking, So worth it! I can't entirely place why, but I have a tendency to have these two occasionally pummel each other. I've probably just been watching too many episodes of The Three Stooges!

I sometimes wonder at how violence is portrayed in the media. When real life violence is condemned, I'm all for that. But then I'm puzzled at just how much it's glorified as long as it's fictitious. But don't listen to me. I grew up watching The Three Stooges!

Once a jug of milk somehow got stuck in a freezer, and I soon learned just how ridiculously long it can take for milk to thaw out!

This cartoon was inspired by watching YouTube videos of people speed running classic video games. I was especially impressed with the way gamers could capitalize on glitches to jump over massive chunks of the actual games to complete them from start to finish in well under a half hour. The two games I enjoyed watching were Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda – Ocarina of Time. Actually, my brother and I once discovered a glitch in the game Super Double Dragon.

It’s become a tradition in my home to watch The Lord of the Rings movie Trilogy every winter, so a Gollum reference was inevitable. For several years I’ve had Candace’s roommate wearing a couple toe rings, so this joke was practically mandatory. The tagline Candace utters made the AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movie Quotes list.

In an effort to make the two roomies as opposite as possible, I’ve designed Candace to be very civic-minded, while Megan is completely apolitical. In this case I sought to show Megan’s annoyance with the difference. I could have just as easily had Candace say, “Did you read what the President is doing now?!”. But, despite the fact that many Americans have likely said that for decades now (and probably decades to come), I thought it’d be fun to shake things up, and turn the Governor into today's scapegoat!

Sometimes it’s just fun to have your characters doing something totally unrelated to the joke you’re writing. In this case, I thought it’s be fun to have the 2 humans building a snowman while the dog sizes up a snow cat. Megan’s lack of knowledge regarding American history is something I view as being a little too realistic!

I still am not certain on how many syllables are in the word “Worcestershire”, but I figured it can’t be more than five!

I’ve noticed that tattoos are pretty uncommon on comic strip characters, even though they are everywhere when you tune in to professional sports. I guess it’s because it’s extra hard to try to keep track of where all the additional “ink” would go each time you draw. Megan doesn’t have any tattoos, but she considers getting one now and then. Obviously, Candace has no such intentions.

Reading the Sunday comics one day, I learned the scientific way of ripping a phone book in half (don’t know what a phone book is? You’re not alone.). Even going about it “scientifically” is hard!

Friday, February 8, 2019

One day I had noticed that over the course of drawing Candace ‘n’ Company strips, I had created two very similar looking outfits for Candace. I figured this way I could officially distinguish between the two. You can see the different colors, right? Me neither.

Marshmallows and wine. No, I can’t explain what I was thinking here.

Saturday, February 2, 2019

My brother gets teased by the family from time to time over how many trips to the E.R. he’s made, and we often say they all know him by name now. Candace’s roommate’s cousin is the same, except his trips seem to all have come from a violent relative!

Wednesday, January 30, 2019

When I was 13 years old, we had a busted up freezer in the home. Fortunately, it gets rather cold where I live during winter months, so the freezer simply sat outside, using the elements to keep the food within cold. Candace should have gotten herself a broken freezer to keep out the coyotes.

Sunday, January 27, 2019

Sometimes I bring one of Candace’s relatives into a cartoon, and they often share at least one of Candace’s traits. When her niece comes by, they often hit the kitchen.

This one is based on my own memories of visiting the indoor swimming pool at whatever hotel I found myself in. The swimming pool room (atrium, or whatever) is never warm enough for people to be walking about in their swimwear, so the hot tub is the place to start. That only makes the actual swimming pool even colder!

I drew this comic several years ago, but colored it much later. So I’m not too sure what inspired it. Sorry.

Humans have a strange relationship with many of their own creations. So I went and drew what I saw!

There are some foods that need to be approached with great caution. Though not quite as “dangerous” as wasabi sauce, horseradish has made me pay for my initial inexperience (thought I’m not as crazy as Charlie).

Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Sometimes I get an idea for a joke that doesn’t fit very well into a Candace ‘n’ Company comic strip. So I just go right into Candace’s head and turn her into a cartoonist!

Sunday, January 6, 2019

This comic needed a little extra info at the end. Before there was G.P.S., getting lost, including among younger adults, was an actual possibility!

I sometimes wonder if poking fun at someone’s mental prowess based solely on hair color is a form of bigotry.
